DJ vs Band

Having trouble deciding between a DJ or a Band?

Consider these important points:

Song Selection DJ's offer a much larger selection of music than any band could ever manage.  A DJ's music library will contain thousands of songs while a band will typically not exceed 300 songs in their playlist.
Song Style DJ's offer any style of music that suits the preferences of the client. Most bands specialize in one type of music such as Country or Rock.
Music Volume DJ's can easily control the volume to the mood of the dance. Most bands play loud at the start and louder later. Even with the best intentions, a drummer has a hard time controlling their volume. Knowing when to throttle down the volume for the right mood is as important as knowing when to pump it up for extra excitement.
Song Recognition DJ's play the original artists of the original songs. Dancers know the song and don't have to figure out the interpretation.
Song Length DJ's play songs in their original length, which is typically three to four minutes. Band versions often turn into dance marathons with their favorite songs running six minutes or longer. As most dancers are not conditioned to such long versions, they leave the floor panting.
Attire DJ's dress appropriate for the event. Band members usually dress in their familiar attire. Formal events require formal attire.
Emcee? DJ's handle the announcements of the event. The DJ manages the timeline and event planning with the client.
Breaks DJ's perform without breaks. Bands often take breaks between sets. When the party is really going it is not good to stop.  However, a DJ must know when it is time to slow things down and give everyone a chance to catch their breath.
Cost DJ's are usually less expensive than a band. Simply, the cost to have one or two staff of the DJ company is cheaper than the cost for five or more band members.
Light Show DJ's specialize in good light shows to accompany the music.
Event Planning DJ's offer direction in planning the event.  It's what DJ's do.
Specialty Dances DJ's coordinate special dance games and contests.
Dance Lead DJ's can step to the floor to help get things started.
Dance Knowledge DJ's know what tempo and what "feel" to play for serious dancers that come to the floor to dance a particular style. It is hard to cha-cha without the right syncopation.

All this being said, of course there are exceptions.

A good DJ will always be better than a bad band.

And, a good band will always be better than a bad DJ.

Choose your DJ carefully.
